Peoria’s Biggest Threats in Numbers

Peoria is growing fast. New businesses, new retail centers, warehouses, offices, and residential developments are going up in Arrowhead Towne Center and the Peoria Sports Complex.

That growth brings opportunity, but also risk.

According to the FBI UCR, in 2024, Peoria recorded 2,441 property crimes with a property crime rate of 1,214 per 100,000 residents. That included 1,823 larceny‑thefts, 303 burglaries, and 297 motor‑vehicle thefts. Even if Peoria’s overall crime rate is lower than some U.S. averages, those numbers show crimes still happen, especially property crimes at night or in commercial and industrial zones.

As Peoria continues to grow, properties become more complex to manage and protect. Professional security planning helps reduce risk before issues arise.

Our Highly Trained Security Guards Don’t Stop at One Assignment

At Covey Security, training is the foundation of everything we do.

We don’t just put a warm body in a uniform. Every guard we deploy is equipped with the skills, judgment, and confidence to handle real threats and keep your people and property safe.

What sets our training apart:

In-House, Hands-On Training: We teach the way we protect—with practical, real-world exercises, not just lectures or slides.
Technology as a Tool, Not a Crutch: We use tech to enhance learning, not skim through it.
Ongoing Skill Refreshers: Periodic check-ins and drills ensure our guards stay sharp and ready.
CPI-Certified De-Escalation Training: Every officer knows how to handle tense situations safely and effectively.
Advanced Safety Certifications: CPR, AED, First Aid, Bloodborne Pathogen, Workplace Violence, and Active Shooter response—our guards are prepared for anything.

Armed vs. Unarmed Security: Which One Do You Need?

Choosing the right type of security guard is critical to protecting your business, property, and people. That’s why we provide both armed and unarmed personnel.

Here’s how to determine the better option for you:

Consideration	Armed Security Guard Services	Unarmed Security Guard Services
Primary Role	Deterrence and immediate response to high-risk threats	Presence-based deterrence, monitoring, and visitor management
Ideal for	High-value properties, warehouses, construction sites, large commercial facilities, and areas with a higher risk of violent incidents	Retail stores, office buildings, gated communities, low-to-moderate risk environments
Training	Advanced firearms and defensive tactics, scenario-based drills	Observation, reporting, conflict de-escalation, and access control
Response Capability	Can intervene directly in armed threats or violent situations	Focus on prevention, monitoring, and alerting law enforcement if needed
Visibility	Strong authority presence; can deter serious threats	Professional, approachable presence; promotes safety and order
Cost Consideration	Typically higher due to specialized training and certification	Often lower, suitable for facilities where a visible deterrent is sufficient
