The Armed Difference With Covey Security

Armed security is the highest level of security service, and we make sure that it is properly deployed to maximize safety.

This is why at Covey Security, we established a superior training program for our armed officers. All candidates have an armed security license and must be qualified by our in-house trainer, regardless of background.

Every armed security officer at Covey is committed to safeguarding your peace of mind through the following:

Rigorous Training

We never settle for basic security training.

Our guards undergo extensive training under an in-house, CPI-certified trainer with real-world experience with firearms.

Escalation of Force Protocols

Having a deadly weapon is a great responsibility, and we want to make sure that our officers deploy it properly.

That is why we engage in the use of force protocols to help with this stressful decision-making process.

Good Communication

Our guards’ best weapon, regardless of the situation, is their voice. We teach how to properly coordinate with emergency services and speak with the people involved to de-escalate situations.

Standardization

We have set strict standards that all guards must follow for a high level of security. This helps with training and alignment across our force.

De-escalation

We coach all of our armed officers in multiple de-escalation techniques. The ultimate goal for our officers is not to use force and to achieve peaceful outcomes through non-violent means.

When to Get Armed vs. Unarmed Security Guard Services?

Security is not one-size-fits-all. What works for a commercial property might not work for a range of industries.

Armed and unarmed guards work towards the same goal but with different methods, and understanding when to use one over the other helps you create the right protection strategy.

Here’s a quick list to help you decide:

Hire Armed Security if…

Your property has a high-risk profile due to high-value assets, cash, or sensitive data.
You operate in areas with elevated crime rates.
You need personal security for executives, VIPs, or high-profile individuals.
There’s a risk of armed intrusion or violent incidents.

Hire Unarmed Security if…

Your environment has a low to moderate risk profile.
You want security guard teams focused on access control, patrols, and incident reporting.
You prioritize customer service and tenant interaction.
You prefer a more approachable sense of security without appearing intimidating.

Not Sure If Armed Security Is Needed—or Barely Enough?

Let Covey help you decide.

Our risk assessment experts analyze your property, its vulnerabilities, and threat levels, and recommend the best security measures that can prevent them.
